Art Follows Industry
by Leianne Neff Heppner

Our community has a proud history and a growing commitment to the arts. Art Follows Industry reflects the times when paths of industry and art have crossed and even merged with significant results.

This special exhibit show haw industry has influenced art and how art has evolved through the years using the same materials that drove out manufacturing success.

Summit County Executive James B. McCarthy and the Akron Area Arts Alliance wish to thank Summit County Historical Society, Enlarging Arts, The University of Akron Archives, The City of Akron Parks and Recreation Bureau, The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and numerous individuals from the community who have generously contributed services and loaded artifacts or works of art for this exhibit.

SCHS has been involved with Summit County Government in a verity of projects over the years, and we feel fortunate to have such a good relationship since we also serve the residents of Summit County. Please take time to see this exhibit located at the 4th floor atrium of the Ohio Building. Also, view the works of James Lehman, the gentleman that inspired the concept for this exhibit of how industry and art have complemented each other through the years.

"I call my work with polymer clay Painting in Space because although it is three dimensional sculpture it is still heavily based on color and design. It is the synthesis of painting and sculpture" -- James Lehman on his website http://www.akrobiz.com/polymer_clay/painting_in_space.html Please view James' website or see his works in cases at the Ohio Building and the entry if Akron's Municipal Building.
