The
Akron Polymer Bowl
has a diagram of the benzene molecule in the center
surrounded by a spiral of polyethylene. The bowl is made of a flat disk of clay
representing plastic sheet and film materials, the braid represents synthetic filaments,
fibers and textiles and the geometric solids represent molded plastic objects.
The back of the bowl is black like carbon, the foundational element of all organic
molecules. The rim of the bowl is a ring of fire, the industry of man.
This piece was commissioned by The City of Akron, Ohio USA in the Summer of 2002.
